Ben Neale
Ben Neale, a social worker, educator, and future psychologist is uniquely advancing multicultural research and focusing attention on various areas of social service. He has taken his interdisciplinary experience in gender, queer, and race studies, as well as socio-cultural psychology, to both public and independent secondary schools in Berkeley, CA and Chicago, IL, respectively. He not only has advanced critical pedagogy in the classroom, but has also worked with school parents, staff and students towards creating more equitable learning communities. On the college campus, he has facilitated undergraduate inter-group dialogue courses on issues of sexism. In addition, he assisted in providing accommodations for college students with disabilities, while working as a consumer manager at the Office of Disability Services at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In recent years as a consumer manager in San Francisco, he has staunchly advocated for the rights of low-income, disabled community members.
Ben has shown a relentless devotion to social equity by infusing his lessons and care plans with knowledge informed by his M.Ed. in Social Justice Education. Currently, he is pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. His research concerns the relationship between mental health and white, male social identity group formation. Other areas of interest include sociology of sports, social basis of behavior, issues of masculinity and violence, oppression theory, white privilege, heterosexism, and ableism / disability.
